5 Candle Alternatives for Dorms That Smell Amazing

The Best Candle Alternatives for Dorms

This post is all about the best candle alternatives for dorms.

One annoying rule about living in a college dorm is that candles are almost always on the “banned items” list.

This is due to the fire hazard of having an open flame.

Can college students be trusted to light a candle in their room without burning the whole building down? I think so, but that’s beside the point!

If you’re looking for a way to still make your dorm room smell good without a candle, here are some great alternatives!

1. Candle Warmer

A candle warmer is probably the next best thing to an actual candle.

You just set a candle on top of it and it releases the scent without a flame.

This is a great option because you can still enjoy the scent from your favorite candles without actually having to light them.

Bonus: The description for this candle warmer says you can also use it to keep drinks or soup warm! While this is a use I’ve NEVER thought of for a candle warmer, it actually sounds like a pretty good idea…

2. Essential Oil Diffuser

Another idea for making your dorm room smell good without candles is by using an essential oil diffuser.

It takes in essential oil and diffuses it throughout the room.

This diffuser is affordable and comes with a set of ten essential oils so you don’t have to buy them separately. You can choose different ones to diffuse depending on what each scent is known for. For example, lavender promotes relaxation and sleep, while eucalyptus is good for focus and studying.

For another option, I also love this stylish ceramic pineapple-shaped diffuser which would be super cute in a dorm room!

3. Plug In Air Freshener

One super simple way to make your dorm room smell good without candles is by getting a plug in air freshener.

You just plug it into the wall and a subtle fragrance wafts throughout the room. Since most dorm rooms are tiny, you can put it on the lowest setting which will make it last longer and not create an overpowering scent.

4. Scented Trash Bags

Believe it or not, scented trash bags are one of my biggest secrets for making a room smell good! I used these in my dorm and they worked great.

Since your dorm room is going to be small and your trash can is going to be right there in your living space, having scented trash bags makes such a difference and keeps your space smelling fresh.

These trash bags come with a nice lavender and vanilla scent.

Another option for scented trash bags are these lemon and lime scented ones.

5. Room Spray

One final way you can make your dorm room smell nice and fresh is with scented room spray (love this pear blossom agave scent!)

This is great to spritz around your room after you clean.

You can also use this spray on linens. It will make your sheets and towels smell absolutely amazing, and you can even spray it inside your closet or wardrobe to make all your clothes smell good too.

These are the best candle alternatives for dorms that are guaranteed to make your dorm room smell amazing!

Dorm rooms can start smelling not so great (especially if you live in a super old building like I did) but these ideas will all keep your room smelling good.
