19 Brilliant Dorm Room Storage Ideas
This post is all about the best dorm room storage ideas.
Dorm rooms are known for being tiny. My freshman year dorm was in one of the oldest buildings on campus and had the smallest rooms! It’s no exaggeration to say I felt like I lived in a shoebox freshman year.

I had to get creative with storage solutions and maximizing the space that I had. Just like I got creative in maximizing my free time with the help of writing services (FYI, you can pay for essay and relax, highly recommended), I managed to store everything in my tiny room.
Here are some of the best dorm room storage ideas that will allow you to keep your room organized and make the most out of your small space:
1. Storage Nightstand
If you have a bed that isn’t lofted, a nightstand like this next to your bed is a great way to add some extra storage to your room.
The canvas drawers are lightweight and removable, making this super easy to move in and out of your dorm room compared to a typical nightstand.
(Here’s a taller four-drawer version of this nightstand too.)
2. Bedside Caddy
If you have a lofted bed in your dorm room like I did, then your bed is going to be too high for a nightstand. A bedside caddy is a great storage alternative.
3. Bedside Shelf
Another option to the bedside caddy is the cutely named BedShelfie.
This is a great option for storing your phone, glasses, water bottle, etc. at night and keeping them within easy reach of your bed.
4. Three Tier Storage Cart
There are soooo many storage possibilities for a three tier metal storage cart like this in your dorm room.
You can use it to store school supplies, beauty products, etc. It’s very versatile and adds a super cute touch to your room.
Another idea: storing snacks in the “kitchen nook” of your room!
5. Storage Ottoman
One of the best dorm room storage ideas I’ve seen is an ottoman with storage.
They’re functional and can be used as a seat or footrest, and they also add a decorative touch to your room. But best of all, they provide additional hidden storage for things like extra blankets or other items.
6. Magic Hangers
Magic hangers are such a genius invention.
They make it incredible easy to maximize your closet space, which is helpful since most dorm rooms come with tiny closets or wardrobes.
7. Mirror Organizer
This is such a smart way to store jewelry, makeup, etc. in your dorm room!
I like how it’s hidden away inside the mirror, so it’s not taking up space and causing clutter on a dresser or desk. Since you’ll probably want a full-length mirror for your dorm room anyway, this mirror organizer is the perfect solution.
8. Over Bed Shelf
One way to really maximize storage space in your dorm room is with an over-the-bed shelf. This over bed shelving unit from DormCo is designed specifically to fit over dorm room beds.
How cute does this look?!
9. Cube Storage
I’m a big fan of these canvas storage bins because you can use them so many different ways in your dorm room.
I’ve seen a lot of people use these on shelves or in their closet to create some extra storage space for clothes and accessories. You can also use these bins to store your hair supplies, makeup, skincare products, etc.
If you get an over-the-the bed shelf, you can also put these bins there!
10. Cube Shelves
Another use for cube storage bins? Put them in a cube shelf.
I’ve seen a lot of people use a cube shelf like this as a DIY entertainment center for their dorm room, with their TV on top.
You can also use it to create under-the-bed storage like this:
11. Under Bed Storage
Perfect for storing out of season clothes or extra linens, under bed storage organizers are a great way to save space in your dorm room.
12. Under Bed Rolling Cart
For items that you use more frequently but still want to keep stored away out of sight, an under bed rolling cart is a great solution.
(This is a great option for shoes you wear a lot, but want to keep out of sight!)
13. Hanging Shoe Storage
This type of hanging shoe organizer that hangs over your closet rod is my top choice because it’s the best for maximizing storage space, and it’s more discreet than ones that hang over your whole door.
14. Drawer Organizers
To make the most out of storage space in your drawers, I highly recommend drawer organizers. These are perfect for organizing socks, underwear, bras, etc.
15. Mini Fridge Stand
If you’re bringing a mini fridge to your dorm room, then having a mini fridge stand like this is a must. You can store dry snacks, plates, and silverware in the drawers underneath. Super convenient!
16. Mesh Shower Caddy
Having a mesh shower caddy is a dorm room essential! You can store all your shower stuff in here and keep it in your dorm bathroom.
17. Over Desk Shelf
The space on your dorm desk is limited, so you can maximize storage for books and school supplies with an over desk shelf, leaving plenty of room for your laptop and study materials on your desk.
I like this over desk shelf from DormCo because it’s designed to fit the dimensions of most dorm room desks.
18. Snack and Coffee Organizer
I am totally loving this dorm room storage idea!
This organizer set allows you to neatly store your snacks and coffee. If you’re not a coffee drinker and won’t have a coffeemaker in your room, then you can purchase the snack organizer by itself.
This is perfect if you want to create a little “kitchen nook” in your dorm room.
19. Storage Bags
Compact storage bags like this are helpful for increasing closet storage. You can use them to store out of season clothes in your closet that you don’t need right now without taking up much of your limited space!
