10 Dorm Room Organization Essentials You Need

Dorm Room Organization Essentials

This post is all about the top dorm room organization essentials you need!

Dorm living is all about making the most of a small space.

My dorm room freshman year was literally a shoebox. My roommate and I lived in one of the oldest dorm buildings on campus with the smallest rooms.

Needless to say, we had to learn how to make the most of our tiny space.

Here are the best dorm room organization essentials that will help you maximize your space and keep your dorm super organized all year long!

1. Foldable Storage Dividers

It’s so easy for your drawers to get messy, but these foldable storage dividers are perfect for keeping everything super organized inside your drawers!

You can use these dividers to organize your socks, underwear, bras, etc. instead of just throwing everything directly in the drawer.

2. Three Tier Storage Cart

I love this three tier storage cart because it’s so versatile. You can use it to store almost anything, from snacks to school supplies. And it adds a pop of color and a cute decorative accent to your room.

You can also get one of these in white if you want a more neutral look.

3. Magic Hangers

How did I live without magic hangers?! These are absolutely genius. They save a ton of space (which is great since your dorm wardrobe will likely be super small) and keep your clothes organized.

4. Storage Bag Organizer

A storage bag organizer like this is a dorm room organization must-have. It’s great for storing things you don’t need to wear immediately (like your winter clothes) or spare linens, while taking up as little space as possible.

5. Ottoman with Storage

One super effective way to keep your dorm room organized is by getting an ottoman with storage. Not only is it a functional piece of furniture that you can use as seating or a footrest, but it also provides additional storage for things that you don’t want causing clutter in your room.

6. Desk Organizer

I don’t know about you, but I can focus much better and am more productive when I have a clean and tidy workspace. A simple desk organizer like this is the perfect way to keep your desk organized. Use it to store all your school supplies and study materials in one easy to reach place!

7. Nightstand with Storage Drawers

If your dorm room has enough space for it, a nightstand with storage drawers is a great organization essential to have to create some extra storage space.

I really like how the drawers on this are made of lightweight canvas, making it so easy to move in and out of your dorm compared to a traditional nightstand!

8. Hanging Shoe Organizer

I like this style hanging shoe organizer that hangs on the rod in your wardrobe or closet much more than the ones that hang over the door with hooks. Why? This is more space-efficient and discreet. It also looks a lot better than having all your shoes hanging in clear pouches over the back of the door.

9. Dorm Fridge Stand

Do you plan to have a mini-fridge in your dorm room? I personally did not have one in my room freshman year, but if I had, I would have gotten a dorm fridge stand with drawers like this one. You can put your fridge on top and store plates, silverware, and dry goods in the drawers below.

10. Storage Bins

Storage bins can be used for many purposed in your dorm room and are perfect for storing things on shelves in a neat and organized way. I like these structured fabric storage bins with rope handles.
