Where to Buy Dorm Stuff: 9 Best Places to Shop for College Dorm

Where to Buy Dorm Stuff

This post is all about where to buy dorm stuff and the best places to shop for college dorm essentials.

Packing for college and moving into a dorm for the first time can be superrrr overwhelming. (Trust me, I’ve been there!) There are so many things to buy, and you might be wondering where to get everything.

I remember wishing I would have had better resources when I was a freshman moving into college, including what exactly to pack and where to find it.

For starters, make sure to check out my Ultimate College Packing List.

This contains a complete list of EVERYTHING you need to pack for college.

And if you’re wondering where to actually FIND all these things, I’ve got you covered. Below is a list of the best places to shop for college dorm stuff, including a mix of online stores and physical stores.

Here are the best places to shop for all things college dorm:

1. Amazon

Okay, this one may seem extremely obvious, but Amazon is definitely one of the best places to shop for dorm stuff.

They have pretty much EVERYTHING, it’s affordable, and you just can’t beat the free two-day shipping with Amazon Prime.

Did you know that college students get Amazon Prime for free for six months?

Yep, it’s true! All you have to do is sign up for Amazon Prime Student. (You’ll just need a valid college email address to get the free six months.)

2. Dormify

My next favorite place to buy dorm stuff is Dormify.

This is THE online store to shop for all things dorm-related if you want to have the most glam and trendiest dorm room on campus. Everything they sell is very on-trend and will make your dorm room look like a Pinterest board come to life.

I like Dormify because everything they sell is specifically designed with dorm rooms in mind, so you know everything will fit just right and be functional.

3. Target

Target always has a lot of affordable dorm stuff in their stores every summer and fall during back-to-school season.

This is where I bought basics like sheets and towels before college. It’s easy to do your dorm shopping here because they always have a big “College Dorm Essentials” area in their stores with everything in one place.

4. Wayfair

I didn’t shop for any dorm stuff at Wayfair when I was in college, but I did order a BUNCH of things for my first apartment after college from there.

Wayfair is an online retailer that has a lot of great, affordable furniture and home decor. They don’t have a specific dorm or college section on their website, but if you search around you can find things like rugs, chairs, wall decor, bedding, etc. that would be perfect for a dorm room.

5. Society6

You may have come across Society6 before if you’ve ever tried to buy art prints, wall art, tapestries, or basically any wall decor online.

Society6 is an online marketplace where you can find gorgeous and unique wall decor from here and support individual artists in the process. This is a great place to look for decor for your dorm room that will really stand out.

6. PBTeen

I got my dorm room bedding from PBTeen and I ended up using it all throughout college! I also found some other dorm room products, like a really cute laundry hamper, that I used throughout college too.

If you want a more matchy or preppy style dorm room, PBTeen is a good place to shop for all your dorm room essentials and decor.

7. Bed Bath & Beyond

Bed Bath & Beyond is another store that always has a TON of dorm stuff out every summer and fall. This is the place to go if you want to grab a bunch of dorm essentials at once and aren’t super concerned about style.

I got a lot of “basic” things like a mesh shower caddy and toiletries case from Bed Bath & Beyond. They always have a lot of coupons available too!

8. Urban Outfitters

For really trendy and cool dorm stuff, look no further than the Urban Outfitters home goods department. They have a wide range of furniture, decor, bedding, and bath products you can get for your dorm room.

If you’re looking to style your dorm room with a boho or indie vibe, this is the place to shop for things like bedding, rugs, tapestries, decor, etc.

9. The Container Store

I used to work as an assistant to an interior designer during college, and she ALWAYS had me going to The Container Store to pick up various storage solutions. If you’re organization-obsessed, this is the place to go.

The Container Store has a dorm-specific section on their website that contains all the storage and organization essentials you need for a dorm room.

Money Saving Tips for College Shopping

The best way to save money when shopping online is with Rakuten.

Formerly known as Ebates, Rakuten is an online cash back website.

When you sign up for an account with them and install their cash back browser extension, they automatically find coupons and discounts for you as you do your online shopping at thousands of stores.

Then, they send you a check (or PayPal deposit) every three months with all the money you saved during that period!

You can sign up for Rakuten here and get $10 cash back when you join and shop for $25. This is a super easy way to save money when shopping for dorm stuff.
