How to Get Amazon Prime Free for Students
This post is all about how to get Amazon Prime FREE for students!
College is already expensive enough as it is, so why should you pay extra for anything when you don’t have to?
As a college student, you can get Amazon Prime 100% free for six months.
If you’ve seen my Ultimate List of Discounts for College Students then you’ll know this is the first thing I recommend because it’s such a good deal.
I had Amazon Prime Student when I was in college and it was a total lifesaver. Here’s everything you need to know about getting it for free!
What Is Amazon Prime?
I’m willing to bet you already know what Amazon Prime is (unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years) but just in case…
Amazon Prime is a membership that is best known for giving you free two-day shipping on most Amazon orders.
However, Amazon Prime offers dozens of other benefits too (which I cover more in depth further down, in case you’re curious.)
The cost of Amazon Prime is $119 a year, or $12.99 a month.
Prime Student is Amazon’s discounted student version of the membership.
With Prime Student, you get access to all the same benefits as the regular Amazon Prime, along with some exclusive student-only offers.
As a college student, you get six months of Prime Student for free.
After that, you pay a discounted price of only $59 a year, or $6.49 a month.
How to Get Amazon Prime Free for College Students
Getting Amazon Prime Student for free could not be easier.
All you need is a valid .edu email address.
From there, Amazon will ask you for your intended graduation year. That’s it.

There’s no age restriction or other limitations for joining Prime Student, so you can get it no matter your age, whether you’re a full-time or part-time student, or if you’re in undergrad or grad school. It’s open to every student.
Even if you don’t have a valid .edu email address, there are a few alternate forms of verification you can use to get Prime Student for free.

What Benefits Does Prime Student Include?
Amazon Prime Student comes with all of the benefits of regular Amazon Prime. Some of those benefits include…
Free shipping
The best-known perk of Amazon Prime is free two-day shipping (and in some cases, free one-day shipping) on most orders. Just look for the little blue Prime checkmark on a product while you’re shopping.
Same-day delivery
Depending on where you leave, you may be able to get free same-day delivery on more than 3 million items if you place your order before noon.
Prime Now
Prime Now is a service that’s also available depending on where you live and allows you get certain convenience items delivered within two hours for free.
Amazon Fresh
This is Amazon’s grocery delivery service. As an Amazon Prime member, you get free grocery delivery on orders of over $50.
Prime Music
Prime Music is an ad-free music streaming service with over 2 millions songs.

Prime Video
Get access to free streaming on thousands of TV shows and movies.

This allows you to read over 1,000 books and magazines for free on your device.

If you’re an indecisive shopper like me, this benefit is awesome. Prime Wardrobe allows you to select multiple styles and sizes to try on, and only pay for what you keep. You can return the rest easily for free.

Amazon Music Unlimited is Amazon’s answer to popular music streaming services like Hulu and Apple Music.
Unlike the basic Prime Music service, which allows you to stream over 2 million songs online, Amazon Music Unlimited expands the library to over 60 million songs and lets you download music to your device for offline listening.
Normally, Amazon Music Unlimited is $7.99 a month, but as long as you’re a Prime Student member, you can get it for only $0.99 a month.
Prime Student Deals
College students get access to special discounts through Prime Student on products including computers, cellphones, tech accessories, apparel, health and personal care, groceries, and more.

Is Prime Student Worth It?
I had Prime Student throughout much of college. I no longer pay for Amazon Prime, mainly because I graduated and no longer shop on Amazon enough to justify paying full price for the benefits.
However, having Amazon Prime as a college student was SO helpful.
I seriously used it all the time. If you look at my Amazon order history throughout my years in college, it was almost an addiction!
Here are some of the things I used Amazon Prime for as a student…
Costumes: Theme parties are huge in college, especially if you’re in Greek life. I was able to order so many costumes for date parties, mixers, and events like Halloween on short notice through Amazon Prime.
Textbooks: I ended up renting textbooks a few times from Amazon and always found the rental prices to be pretty reasonable.
Random snacks: When I was feeling suuuper lazy, I would sometimes use Prime Now to get a couple of snacks and groceries delivered!
Dorm essentials: I’m a huge fan of shopping Amazon for dorm essentials and dorm decor. I can almost always find exactly what I’m looking for at the lowest price and with the quickest delivery time.
For me, Prime Student definitely paid for itself many times over!
So is it worth it?
Overall, I would say Prime Student is worth it for most college students.
One thing to consider, though, is how often you’ll actually use Amazon. Also keep in mind that orders over $35 already get free shipping on Amazon (just not with free two-day or quicker delivery.)
Another thing to think about is if you already have subscriptions to streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, Apple Music, etc. you might not find anything new with Prime Video and Prime Music.
You can always try Prime Student free for six months first and then cancel anytime if you decide it’s not worth it for you.
When Does Prime Student Expire?
Your Prime Student free trial will expire after six months.
Your paid Prime Student membership will expire after four years or at the date you indicated for your intended graduation, whichever comes first.
How to Get Your Free Trial Extended
If you’re free six months of Prime Student are running out, it’s always worth a shot asking Amazon to extend your trial.
I did this and ended up getting ANOTHER six months of Prime Student for free.
When you go to cancel your trial, contact customer support first to explain your situation. There is no guarantee this will work, but it’s always worth trying.

I made an account for amazon prime though this article. I was confused if it registered as prime or is that going to be extra on top of the $59 a year? Since you have already been through this I was hoping you could help me figure it out.
Hey Taylor, if this is your first time registering for Amazon Prime Student, then you should get the six months free when you sign up. If you have already signed up before and used your free six months, then it will be $59 a year for Amazon Prime Student (which is half of what regular Prime costs.) Hopefully this helps!
